Y6 Curriculum Overview
Autumn 1 A Child's War
Our locality forms the basis of this history topic as we look at the impact of the Second World War on the city of Coventry. We will learn about the story of Coventry Cathedral, children evacuated during the conflict and visit key sites in the city. In science we explore making circuits and using electricity. We will work scientifically to explore the brightness of a bulb or loudness of a buzzer. In DT we focus on cams, and design and make a moving toy.
Help your child
Visit a local museum together to investigate how the Second World War affected our local area. You could also read an exciting fiction book set during the time period. Ask older relatives and family friends to share their memories of that time. Alternatively, you could ‘make do and mend’, working together to create a model inspired by the Second World War or recycling household items to make something new.
Summer 2 Lights! Camera! Action!
As part of a number of projects that form an exciting end to Year 6, fieldtrips to Coventry and further afield will enable pupils to learn new geography fieldwork and mapwork skills, as well as providing a practical context in which to consolidate existing skills.
